Dr. Kate Battenfelder

Kate lives in Bartlett, a town she adores! She moved to North Conway in 2002 from her home state of PA. She graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Animal Bioscience in 2001 and then trained service dogs for a year before the call of the mountains drew her north. Kate then returned to school to graduate with her DVM from Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. She returned to work in North Conway in 2007 and then worked at Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital from 2008-2015. Kate is honored to be a part of the lives of her patients and clients and is even more honored to work with an amazing staff to make it all happen. Kate has 2 daughters, 2 dogs, and 3 cats (But don’t hold her to those numbers of animals, you never know in this line of medicine…).

Stephanie Macomber, Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)

Stephanie is originally from Scottsdale, Arizona and began working in veterinary medicine in 1991. She became a certified veterinary technician in 1999. She met her now husband Nathan and they moved back to his family’s beautiful farm in Conway, NH in 2002. She began working at Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital at that time, spent some years at various practices and pursuing additional interests such as becoming licensed in massage therapy and personal training, but ultimately coming back to her true love of quality nursing care of animals, educating and caring for their families, and tying in all of her passions with one goal of making animals and their families better. Stephanie loves advocating for animals and acting as their voice to achieve excellent and quality nursing care. Stephanie and Nathan have a daughter and a son, one dog and one cat at their farm.

Leah Perez, Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA)

Leah joined our team in 2019 after graduating from Pen Foster’s Veterinary Assistant Program. Her ability to make us laugh is unparalleled, and her drive to learn is inspiring. She is currently enrolled in Penn Foster’s Veterinary Technician Program and is doing an amazing job of balancing school, work, and life. On her days off she likes to keep herself busy doing crafts like painting, macramé, and making jewelry. She and her husband live in Conway with their two cats, Beans and Judas, and their leopard gecko Sloan.

Leigha Riendeau, Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA)

Leigha lives in Berlin NH, and has two dogs, a cat and a horse. (Mouse, Lady, Bandit, and Elu) She would have more animals if allowed, but her husband says “no way”. She and her husband welcomed their first child into the world in June of 2023. She likes horseback riding, riding ATV’s and spending time with her daughter. Leigha graduated from White Mountain Community College’s Veterinary Assistant program and is now working as an Approved Veterinary Assistant. She has always wanted to work with animals and is happy to finally be pursuing her dream with True North.

Molly Miller, Veterinary Assistant

Molly is from North Conway and she came to us in November of 2020. She is furthering her education in veterinary medicine and absorbing as much knowledge as she can from the rest of our amazing team. Molly loves spending time with your animals in the exam room and she always makes sure they feel loved. She spends her free time skiing and hanging out with her friends, her boyfriend, and her daughter. She has two dogs, Piper and Maia who she loves very much.

Izabella Behan, Receptionist

Izzy lives in Fryeburg and is our newest addition to the team here at True North. With her passion for animals continuing to grow, she hopes to eventually expand her education into veterinary medicine and believes that being our receptionist is the perfect first step into doing just that. Izzy is the face that greets you when you arrive and the comforting voice you hear over the phone. She enjoys spending her free time working with her young horse Wiz, spending time outdoors and being able to give the best life possible to her four dogs Echo, Ellie, Rosie and Kota.

Sarah Burke, Practice Manager

Sarah moved to Conway and met her husband Curt in 2007. They now live in Intervale with their 2 teenage daughters and their cat, Pipsqueak (AKA Cat-thing). Sarah has recently enrolled in White Mountain Community College in order to get a degree in Business Management, as well as to pursue her new goal of becoming a VHMA Certified Veterinary Practice Manager. When she isn’t working or doing schoolwork she spends her time reading, travelling with her family, doing puzzles and escape rooms, or just watching Netflix and scrolling on her phone.

Martha Washington, Security

Martha first came to us via our trap/spay/release program in December of 2022. She was found and caught at the Mt. Washington Hotel, spayed, but then we fell in love with her before we could release her. She is adorably persnickety, extremely food motivated, and absolutely perfect in every way. She was recently promoted to head of security due to her extreme sense of diligence in spot checking all snacks that enter the building. You can find her on any given day lounging in one of her many beds here at True North, spying on birds at one of our windows, or hovering close to her food bowl hoping for a stray morsel. She enjoys sleeping, eating, judging from afar, being aloof, and being pet not too few but also not too many times before attacking.
